Sunday, 31st of January 2010

So far today is what I call a very lazy day. I haven't even stepped outside, mainly because I can see the wild birds have plenty of food. Ken was on the computer for a little while this morning. Now he is sleeping as he watches a race. LOL If it stays decent, I plan on putting the outside dogs back out in their kennel. :)

I got a phone call from Andrea wanting me to take another ferret. I said I would. It is suppose to come here sometime this week. I don't know much about it, other than it is a 8 week old male ferret who is dark.

Saturday, 30th of January 2010

We woke up to at least 8 inches of snow. I could hardly open the door because of the snow. Thank goodness I had the snow shovel in the house, so I just shovel from inside the house until I could get out the door. Only shoveled the front where are door is, and the bridge. Later I shoveled the back door but had to go outside to do that for I couldn't get that back door open at all because of all the snow. Sam came down with his tractor and plow and made us a path from the highway to the carport. I couldn't believe how deep the snow was and when he came down to the house, you should see the pile of snow he left. I tried to get the car up to the mailbox but I still couldn't make it. First I had to clean off the car which not only was cover with snow but ice too. The car started fine and I left it on with the defrosters on and finally the ice melted enough for me to scrap it off. I didn't have any problems backing out of the carport but couldn't make it up to the mailbox because of the hill. I finally had to back it back down, but got it stuck in front of the carport. I finally got it in the carport but it took a little while. The mail-lady drove down to our house to deliver our mail. Ken got some medicine but we are still expecting more. Ken was on the computer quite awhile today. I think he finally got all his e-mail read.

Friday, 29th of January 2010

It's just after 7 a.m. although we were both awake by 4. It is starting to get daylight although so far you can't see that we have a sun. Our world is white, lots of snow and ice outside. And the great news is....we still have electricity. Never know around here but for awhile we are warm and Ken is able to use his oxygen machine. It is still snowing and the way it sound it will be snowing all day. I have no idea if any limbs have fallen and won't know until I get dressed and go outside. I probably won't shovel the snow on our deck until it quits snowing. I may take pictures but the last snow we had was way deeper than this but by night who knows how much will have fallen. No school and some businesses are closed in this area. And hardly any traffic on the highways. So I guess there are some smart Arkansas people in this area. We being one of them !!! :)

Ken asked for and got biscuits and gravy for a brunch! Now he is laying in bed, as happy as can be, watching the birds and the t.v. I have gone out three times to put food out for the birds. You can't imagine how many birds are at our feeding stations. Plus I have put water out but I will have to go out real soon for the water is freezing. I shoveled snow by the front door so hopefully no one will track snow in the house. But it didn't work. The snow is falling fast and covers everything as fast as you clean it off. The freezing rain that we had last night, could have made the deck very dangerous to walk on, but with the sleet, the ice is real rough and you can walk without slipping.

It's almost 8 p.m. and it is still snowing. The snow is getting pretty deep now. They are saying it will probably snow all night and tomorrow expect snow flurries. At least we still have electricity but the way the snow is falling, I sure hope the lines are strong enough to hold the weight. I am setting a flashlight near Ken's bed as will as mine.

Sam and Joyce both called today to check on us. At least now we have a phone that works just in case the electricity goes. I bought it yesterday at Dollar General. Plus a radio that not only works on electricity, but on back up batteries too.

Thursday, 28th of January 2010

We are trying to get ready for another ice and snow storm. This morning I drove to Tennison and bought dog, cat and bird seed from the feed store. Then over to Dollar General and bought a few items. The big dogs are in the house now and actually they are being real good. They do have a tendency of being in your way when you are trying to walk. I bought them alot of chew bones to keep them busy. Right now from the looks of radar we will get some ice but not as much as last year but it sure looks like we will be getting quite abit of snow. I do have ice melt for the patio in the event I need to use it and even brought in the snow shovel so when I walk outside, I can immediately start shoveling. Oh, I also filled the car with gas because when the electricity when out of course the gas pumps don't work. I sure wish we had a generator but they are unbelivably costly. The storm is suppose to hit here later this evening. Ken and I can hardly wait!!! NOT !!!!

It started raining and sleeting about 6 p.m. It's going to be a long night. At least for right now we have heat. All the animals are in the house safe and warm. Tomorrow we are suppose to get alot of snow. Hope it's not as much as they are saying we might get.

By 10 p.m. our deck and front yard is covered in sleet/ice. Not for sure how much but it has to be at least an inch and probably more. Our dogs sure didn't want to go out but did. It sure didn't take them long to do their business. According to radar this part of the storm is almost over, then the snow will be here and then more sleet. Hopefully our electricity will stay on through this storm.

Wednesday, 27th of January 2010

This has been a long day for both Ken and I. But we actually had good news. The plaque is not as bad as they thought and so that means no operation or even extra medicine. He is suppose to watch his diet and try to exercise. The exercise will be hard for him to do for he poops out real fast. But I am going to try to get him to walk on our deck and bridge several times a day and that should help alot. Oh, we didn't get home till after 6.

Tonight they are saying we may get some rain, freezing rain, and then snow. We stopped at the grocery store before we came home to pick up bread, milk and a few other extras just incase we can't get out of our driveway.

Tuesday, 26th of January 2010

It's cold and breezy today but if you can stay out of the wind it really isn't that bad. The chores are all done outside. I did pick up the bird feeder that blew down and moved it beside the other one until I can figure out a way to get it to stay without tipping over. It came with a big pot at the bottom which I had filled with gravel, but that sure didn't stop the wind from blowing it over. At least the birds don't mind it being moved, for they are already out on the two feeders chowing down on the seeds.

Ken took a shower this morning and I have everything packed up for the trip to Little Rock tomorrow. Again we will have to get up by 4 and leave by 5:30 to get to Yellville, where we catch the van. When we get back home, Ken wants to let the outside dogs into the house for the night and let them stay in for several days because we are expecting another ice storm with snow. I don't mind them in other than they are so big, it is like having elephants in the house.

Mandy, Dr. Chitsey's nurse called this morning and they are going to put Ken on two new medicines to see if that helps the swelling in his legs and feet. He is still having a hard time walking and hopefully tomorrow when he is at the hospital, he will use the wheel chair again. Mandy said that Dr. Chitsey want him to come back to the office in three months to see how he is doing. Ken hasn't eaten all day. Hopefully he will get hungry soon. I keep offering him food but he just says he is not hungry. I think he is really scared about tomorrow. I know I am.

Monday, 25th of January 2019

It sure is windy outside. One of my bird feeders fell down. I am not going to pick it up until the wind stops and then Ken and I are going to try to figure out how to place it so we don't have it falling down every time it blows here. In the summer we get alot of wind and it really blows hard here.

Ken was on the computer all morning. He hadn't been on the computer for a couple of days so he had lots of e-mail to read. Now he is in bed, eating his lunch of tamalies. He really loves them, but then, he loves any Mexican food.

Sam called and said he would be down Wednesday to tke care of Robby and Baby, who we leave in the house. Ken and I will be heading back to Little Rock to hear what the doctor has to say about Ken's treatment on his plaque in the arteries of his neck. As far as we know there are only three treatments; medicine, surgery, or just leave it alone. I will let you all know what Ken decides to do.

Sunday 24th of January 2010

It's cold out but at least we aren't getting any rain. It rained almost all last night but it was more like a light shower.

Ken has a couple of football games he wants to watch. He is really having a hard time walking. I wish there was something I could do for him.

I got to chat with Leslie on Face Book for awhile. She is selling Girl Scout Cookies which we are going to send some money to help her with the contest. I sure miss her but they are planning on visiting us this summer. I can hardly wait.

Ken had a delicious supper of cheese, crackers, and an ice cream sandwich. Not too healthy but he is happy! Just in case you are wondering, Yes, I do fix him good meals, it's just he would rather eat junk!!! Some times I let him eat what he wants but sometimes I don't ask and just put down a plate with decent food on it.

Saturday, 23rd of January 2010

Lazy morning. It was suppose to be raining here before noon but nothing happened. Radar is still showing that the rain is coming.

Cindy does not like taking pills. I have to pry her mouth open, stick the pill in real fast, and then hold her mouth closed until she swollows. Loads of fun but if it helps her, it is worth it.

It started very lightly raining around 1 in the afternoon. Everything is wet but no water is running. After feeding the outside dogs, I put more straw in their dog houses. I really don't know why I do it for they seem to get most of the straw on the outside of their home and lay in it there. Go Figure!!! The wild birds are busy at their feeders. I priced more feeders and plan on ordering a couple of more.

Ken is happy because he found a football game to watch. :)

Friday, 22nd of January 2010

Ken had to go to his doctor in Harrison this morning, just for a check-up and to see if Ken had any problems that he wanted the doctor to check. Both of Ken's feet and ankles are swollen so I mentioned it and the doctor drew blood to see if Ken needs some new or different medicines. He said he would get the results in by Monday.

Then we drove to the vet with Cindy. Cindy is also having problems with her leg and also under the neck. Doctor is not for sure as of yet what it is but he gave me some medicines for it and I have to take her back to the doctor in two weeks. I had to give Cindy 5 pills when we got home and she did not like it at all. I wrapped them in lunch meat but she would spit the pills out and eat the lunch meat. Finally I pried open her mouth and shoved them down her throat. She is now major pissed off at me. The pills are Prednisone 20 mg. and for 7 days she will take 2 in the morning and 2 at night. Then the pills go down to two pills once a day for 7 days, and then two tablets every other day until they are gone. She is also taking Cephalexin 500 mg. She takes 3 pills twice a day for 14 days. Cindy also has a yeast infection in her ears so he is having me put in Mometamax 15 mg. in both ears, one a day for 2 weeks. She has to go back to see her doctor in 2 weeks. Oh, Cindy weighs 154 pounds, which is the same weight as last year.

Ken and I stopped at Sub-Way and got sandwiches. We brought them home to eat them. He had B.B.Q Beef with American Cheese and I had Ham and Cheese. Now we are both stuffed like two happy ticks! Ken is going to try to go to sleep and I am going to work on genealogy for awhile.

Thursday, 21st of January 2010

Late last night we had a thunder and lightening storm. Plus of course rain. I have no idea how
much because I haven't put out the rain gauge yet because it could freeze and break. This morning when we got out of bed, it was cool, wet and cloudy. But according to the radar, we won't be getting any rain today. But you know how weather is. It could change it's mind any minute.

Ken got on the computer early this morning for a little while. His hip was bothering him so he didn't stay up very long. It is probably bothering him because of all the setting he did yesterday. He is laying on the heating pad and hopefully that will help him.

The containers that hold the bird seed were full of rain water so of course had to throw away all the bird seed. Will actually I didn't throw it away. I just dumped it on the ground because the bird will fly down and eat it there. Filled up those containers again. The birds are using the two new bird feeders I put outside. Saw several different varieties of bird eating from the different containers I have hanging on it. I am thinking of buying two more of these feeders and place them close to the trees we have planted out front. Both Ken and I think that would be pretty.

Romona and I went to Harrison and had a long fun afternoon. First we went to the hospital to visit Mary Ann, our neighbor. She is not doing good at all. Then we went to the Harrison Auxiliary Store and ended up buying a lot of goodies. I found a brand new pair of p.j.'s, a pair of slippers, one pair of heels, 2 wreaths which I will turn into summer wreaths to hang outside, some toys and more baby blankets for the ferrets, and a case to carry all of Ken's papers when I go to the hospital. We then went to Hudsons Grocery Store and both of us picked up a few things, then to a discount grocery store where I found a few things. Then home. Ken had got dressed and took care of the dogs. When I got inside the house, I made homemade chili for Ken which he really liked. Sure hope it doesn't give him indegestion later on this evening.

Wednesday 20th of January 2010

Ken and I got out of bed at 4 a.m. We left the house at 5:30 and drove to Yellville to catch the VA van. It had rained here last night so the highway was wet and in some spots we ran into fog. After getting on the van, and heading south, boy did we run into fog. Very thick fog, the kind that is dangerous to drive in. We had never been on this highway before and I like to look to see what the country side looks like but could hardly see anything, and what I could see looked awful. The houses looked more like what you would think of when you think of hillbillies. Very rustic and that is a kind way of putting it. Lots of trees, and the highway was so windy. I could tell me were in what they do call the mountains, for we did alot of climbing. It was interesting but I am glad we chose the area we live in instead of moving down there. The hospital was recently built and huge. Ken had to wait at least an hour but once he got into get his scan, it didn't take to long. Then we went down to the waiting room and waiting for the rest of the people to get done so we could head back. There was 9 people in the van, plus the driver. I took a picture of the van but for somereason it didn't turn out. But the other two pictures that I took came out fine. Hopefully Ken can figure out why I can't view the picture. Otherwise, I will take another picture of the van next week.
In the pictures, Ken is in the van heading home. We had stopped at McDonalds, but neither Ken and I wanted anything so we stayed in the van. There are two VA hospitals in Little Rock, the old one and the new one that we went too. In this picture of the hospitals, you will see both of them.

In the evening Judy Atkinson of Winterset, Iowa called me and we must have talked 2 hours. They had an ice storm in Winterset today and at the moment, her electricity is out. She is not a happy camper.

Ken ate supper when we got home and then fell asleep. He had a real hard time walking today so I got a wheel chair for him and pushed him around the hospital. His legs just didn't want to hold him up.

Tuesday 19th of January 2010

It is a beautiful day here. You can go outside in a short sleeved t-shirt. It's my kind of weather.

Randy Buckner, our neighbor during the summer, called us from his home in Yucaipa, CA. It was great hearing from him. I also called Melissa this morning to check on her because she has been running a temperature. She has no idea what is wrong but hopefully if it keeps up, she will go to the doctor. It has been raining in California, and it even hailed at Kenny and Melissa's place.

I went outside and worked on the two new bird feeders. Actually I did most of the work yesterday on them, today it was just adding fake flowers in the pot at the bottom of the bird feeder. I took a picture of it. Actually there are two alike, which I put in the front yard. I don't know if you can see it or not but I have three Goldfinches on it eating.

I am starting to get things packed up for the trip to Little Rock tomorrow. Sam is going to come over and take care of Robby and Baby while we are gone. We don't dare leave Robby outside or he will start looking for us.
Sam came over later in the afternoon to find out what we wanted him to do to Robby and Baby. They will be staying in the house and need to go out every so often. He is going to let them out but first he will put a leash on them or they will be heading up the driveway trying to find us.
Hopefully we will both go to bed early because we have to get up at 4:30 so we can meet the van. I sure feel sorry for Ken, because he won't be able to lay down all day and I know that is going to be awfully hard on him. I'll let all of you know tomorrow evening how it went.
It is late in the evening and has just started to sprinkle. From the looks of radar, we will get a good shower but nothing like California is getting.

Monday, January 18, 2010

Monday, 18th of January 2010

Woke up to heavy fog and it is still quite foggy outside. Not real cold which I am thankful for. I was going to take Cindy to the vet today but not for sure now because I would be driving in thick pea soup. I can't think the fog will last all day. After all, this is not Tulare, CA.!

Sunday 17th of January 2010

It looks pretty nice outside and actually didn't feel bad either. It is 39 degrees but feels like 33. It is suppose to get warmer but at the moment I have no idea how much.

Other than mopping the kitchen and the pantry, I really didn't do much, nor did Ken. He helped me by giving me famous peoples names to find on FaceBook. Later he got on the computer and looked at the information I had found. We heard back from two, one from the man that started Donald Trump and also from the lady that is in charge of the Kay Kyser group. Ken told her that he had seen Kay Kyser and his Orchestra when he and some of his family had went to the 1939 Golden Gate Internation Exposition on Treasure Island on San Francisco Bay. She wrote back and wants Ken to write more about the experience. I hope he can remember about seeing Kay Kyser for he was only 10 years old at the time.

Saturday, 16th of January 2010

Woke up to light rain. Temperature is 44 but it feels like 41.

Ken got on the computer twice today, and this evening he is watching a football game. I might add he is not happy, his team is losing!

I mainly cleaned today. Dusted, vacuumed, rearranged some of the furniture, and lots of other "yukky" jobs that I have been putting off. I also had to put a fence around the bottom of where I feed the birds. Seed falls on the ground and the dogs go eat it and then come inside and up-chuck. I can't believe dogs would eat bird seed, but they do. I wonder if it might be cheaper to feed them bird seed rather than dog food. Hummmmm

Friday, January 15, 2010

Friday, 15th of January 2010

Woke up to 45 degrees and it even feels like 45 outside. :) The sky is cloudy, like it might rain, but according to the local weather channel we are not suppose to get rain until Tuesday.

I drove Ken to Yellville so he could get a hair cut. We also found the Quick Stop that we go to Wednesday so Ken and I can ride the Veterans Van to Little Rock. The lady at the gas station said that the bus is very punctual and to be there before 6:30 a.m. She also showed me where to park and if we come inside the gas station, they have coffee and rolls. Of course you have to pay for it! Ken might drink a cup of their coffee.

After we got home from Yellville, I left again for Harrison and Robby rode with me. I had quite a few stops so Ken didn't ride along. I first went to the doctor and got a permission slip so I can ride with Ken to Little Rock. Then drove to the Wal Mart and bought some groceries, and stopped by the vet's and got some ear mite medicine for the dogs. I went to the postoffice and bought stamps and then stopped by the Harrison Hospital Auxiliary and bought some used jeans in size 12 and 10. The 12's fit me perfect and the 10's are pretty tight. I bought the 10's because right now I am losing weight pretty fast, and it sure doesn't take long for the jeans to get to big for me. I found a pair of Tommy Hilfiger jeans in size 10. I was thrilled because I like that brand. Plus it will go with my jean vest made by Tommy Hilfiger. The jeans were by one for $3.00's and get the next one free. So I bought 6 pairs of jeans. Which meant I paid $1.50 a pair. Not bad. I also got a could of stuffed toys for the dogs. I have to buy baby stuffed toys because of the eyes. If the dogs feel the plastic eyes, they chew them off, eat them, and then puke all over the floor. I also found some receiving blankets which I use for the ferrets and one pair of nylon p.j.'s for me. Poor Ken didn't get anything this time!

I served Ken pizza for supper and took a picture of him eating it. Plus you can see his new haircut!!!

Thursday, 14th of January 2010

Let the dogs out and it didn't take me long to shut the door, nor did it take long for the dogs to do their business. The temperature is 41 degrees but it feels like 35. I don't know why it feels so cold out, especially when we had been having really low temperatures.

When I was in grade & high school I had a very good friend, Donna Deardorff. When I moved to California, I lost her! I had her address but she had moved. I finally found her, called her & left a message. Late last night she called me. I talked her into joining FaceBook and also found her older sister Wilma on FaceBook. I am so surprised as to how many of the students in my school belong to FaceBook. Donna still lives in Des Moines. She wants me to visit her but right now I can't. Maybe someday when Ken starts feeling better.

Right now Ken just woke up and is drinking cup of hot coffee and watching the news. The way it sounds, he actually got a full nights rest, which means Cindy didn't wake him up in the middle of the night wanting out. I had let her out side after midnight, hoping that would be enough for her, and I guess it was.

Ken got dressed and we went outside for about an hour. It has been quite awhile since Ken has been able to go outside. As soon as we got back into the house, he undressed and got back into the bed and I fixed him lunch. I think later this afternoon he will get on the computer and then I'll change his bedding.

Ken never did get on the computer. He has been in his bed all afternoon, mainly sleeping. I am going to wake him up at 1 a.m. so he can watch Glenn Beck. He was watching it this afternoon and our t.v. messed up. I finally got it fixed but Beck was over. At least he will get to see the re-run of the program that was on today.

Sam called to check on Ken. Sam said he would come over and visit Ken in a couple of days. Ken really looks forward to his visits.

Wednesday, January 13, 2010

Wednesday, 13th of January 2010

I got to sleep a little later this morning which was lovely. But when I got up and walked into the livingroom, t.v. was on and of course Ken was awake. Poor man hadn't had any coffee so I got him a cup. Right now at 7:46 a.m. it is 24 degrees but feels like 15. I don't call that very warm, do you?

Went outside to check the dogs. They were fine and you can see they have been using their dog houses filled with straw. Plus there seems to be alot of straw out of their dog house but I guess that doesn't hurt. Their water had a thin layer of ice on it. I broke it then poured hot water in it to fill it, plus hopefully melt the broken ice. Also broke the ice in the water that we keep outside for our dogs when they go outside. I don't have many birds eating outside of the window today. I think it may be because I have two cats setting on the railing. I am sure they just want to greet the birds. Thank goodness the birds are smart enough not to accept the greeting.

Tuesday, 12th of January 2010

It's cloudy here this morning but according to the weather station, nothing is suppose to happen.

Romona called this morning to tell me about our neighbor Mary Ann. Romona stayed with her yesterday and poor Mary Ann isn't able to talk, move, etc. Her husband went to Little Rock to get her a Jerry Chair. He isn't in good health either. Romona and I are going to help any way we can but Romona said that now the people from their church are planning on coming over to stay with her. Especially at nights so her hubby can get some much needed shut-eye.

UPS delivered the ferret shampoo. This time the bottles didn't freeze and no plastic bag full of shampoo. I am having a problem with my little female ferret, Carrie II. She is so small she can crawl under the door after climbing up the gate and then runs around the kitchen, living room, etc. I am not afraid of the cats hurting her but the dogs on the other hand might think it is a large rat that needs to be killed. I now have all of them locked up in their large cage until I can figure out how to keep her in the bathroom. She was sure having fun running until I caught her.

Ken helped me make two bird feeders. They are made out of the lids of candle jars. If the lid is big, you can place an orange in it, and if it is small (mine were small) you can put jelly in it for the oriole's. I have one already hung outside but can't hang the other one until I get more chain and a hook. Ken has the wire already wrapped around the lid so it is just a matter of buying a chain and a hook and then I will have two.

I finally took some pictures of the house Christmas lights, (one's that you can actually see), our mail box decorated for Christmas and the two posts heading into our driveway which are also decorated for Christmas. I wanted to take these pictures because sometime this week, since it is warmer, I am going to un-decorate! Now I am trying to remember where I put the Valentine decorations.

Monday, 11th of January 2010

I didn't check the weather cannel when I got up. Mainly because when I let the dogs out I could tell that it wasn't as cold as it has been. Right now (11 a.m.) it is 29 degrees. And the good news is, it will be warmer as the day goes along.

Ken is having a hard time breathing today. He is taking a nebulizer treatment at the moment. Hopefully that will help him breath easier.

I saw one of my cats hanging by one paw this morning. He had either jumped or climbed on the wires that I use to hang the bird feeders on. Anyway, he was a swinging, finally got both paws on the wire then figured he couldn't climb up any further, so he dropped to the ground. I hope all the birds saw this ungraceful cat and laughed at him. Oh, it was Frick.

I filled my car with gas. $2.79 a gallon. I also drove to Quality Feed Store twice and the first time I bought one bale of wheat straw and pine wood chips. Both are for the dog houses. Then I went back and bought another bale of straw which I placed on the west side of the dog house to keep the wind out, plus I bought a 50 pound sack of dog food. Tonight the dogs are sleeping outside. :)

In the mail I got some pictures from Melissa. They were taken when we still lived in California. Luke was just born and both Ken and I are in the pictures. We were both thrilled to get them.

Ken went outside for maybe about a half hour. He started both garden tractors and said they started right up. It wasn't bad outside but it didn't take Ken very long to get chilled. Now he is eating his supper and watching Fox.

Sunday, January 10, 2010

Sunday, 10th of January 2010

Early this morning it was 7 degrees and the windchill was also 7 degrees. We are suppose to start warming up today.

Our electricity went off this morning for several hours. I can't believe how fast the house can cool off. I have no idea why it was off. When the electricity goes off, we don't even have a working phone. I need to buy a phone that doesn't run on house current. But everytime I am at Wal Mart, I don't think of buying one. Guess I need to write it on my grocery list.

Saturday, 9th of January 2010

It's still very cold but not as cold as it has been. This morning when I got up (around 5:30) it was 6 degrees and actually felt like 6 outside. So we are making progress.

Ken got on the computer the first thing this morning. While he was typing (with two fingers), Sam came over and visited for a short time. He left when he found out that Ken wouldn't eat his breakfast in front of him. I made Ken pancakes and sausage with orange juice and coffee. Ken didn't eat much. He said he wasn't hungry so I gave the pancakes to the dogs, who loved them!
I tried to take pictures of the lights on the outside of the house but I waited to long for as you can see, it is pretty dark. I am going to try again tomorrow when it is lighter.

Friday, January 8, 2010

Friday, 8th of January 2010

I crawled out of a warm bed to let the dogs out. Wish I had of taught them to use the bathroom stool and flush afterwords. When I opened the storm door, I couldn't even call the dogs for the cold took my breath away. Temperature is 3 degrees but feels like 16 below. When Ken wakes up, I am going to find out why he wanted to move here. I am sure he has a logical answer but at the moment, I am not thinking logical, nor civil. :)

I drove up to the General Store and bought a few needed groceries. The roads weren't bad at all. It is trying to snow but I don't think it will amount to anything.

Other than Ken getting on the computer for a couple of hours we really didn't do much. Ken did about freeze in the computer room, but that was because he didn't turn the heater on high. I bet he doesn't do that again when it is so cold. He finally crawled into bed and swore it took him ages to get warmed up. LOL

Thursday, 7th of January 2010

I got up early but didn't get on the computer until later in the morning. It was just too cold in the computer room to set and type. The temperature was 11 degrees and outside it felt like minus 6 degrees. I did go outside tp feed and water the birds, plus let the dogs out to pee. They aren't doing much running around, after they do their business, they run under the patio until I let them in. I suppose the wind doesn't hit them there as much. OH, I forgot to mention the wind. It is blowing like crazy!!!

I called the doctor and canceled the appointment for today. It is just too cold for Ken and I to venture out. They are going to reschedule for later.

I had to call Ferret Depot this morning and reorder the shampoo's. It had frozen and broke both bottles in the trip from Illinois to here. Thank goodness they had put it in a plastic bag because the bag was full of green and blue shampoo. They said a replacement would be sent right out. Sure hope the next bottles don't freeze too.

Ken spent several hours on the computer and I baked an apple pie. Later Ken ate a piece of hot apple pie. I haven't even drove up to get the mail. And I may not because it is so cold. I'll be sorry if there is a million dollar check waiting for me in the mailbox but I don't think I have much to worry. I have had to go outside 4 times so far to give the birds the liquid form of water instead of ice. It sure doesn't take long for ice to form when it is this cold.

Wednesday, 6th of Jan 2010

Earlier this morning our weather channed was not working but now at 8:30 a.m. it is. The temperature is 16 degrees and if you were outside it would feel like 5 degrees. We have a storm heading our way, with more snow but this time they are saying high winds. So we may end up with drifts. Not for sure about heading to Harrison so Ken can see the doctor. We may have to cancel but won't know until tomorrow.

It really isn't that cold outside or else I am getting use to it. I went outside and shoveled the deck and bridge. Now, if we go to the doctor tomorrow, I won't have to worry about Ken slipping and falling in the snow. Plus I am sure that will make the dogs and cats happier than walking on that slick deck and steps. Ken was on the computer for quite awhile today. Now he is back in a clean bed and looking quite comfortable.

I am waiting for the UPS driver to bring a package. Usually the UPS driver comes here after 3. A lot depends on how much he has to deliver and the roads. But I am sure most of the roads are cleared, or at least I hope so.

I had to drive up to get my package. The UPS driver wouldn't try our driveway. Said it looked to slick. The wimp!!! Actually my car wasn't too happy about the drive but I kept it at the same speed and only felt it try to slip off the driveway a couple of times.

Ken has decided he isn't hungry because he ate 3 corn dogs earlier. Now he is looking at his favorite catalog, "Harbor Freight".

No snow as of yet but it sure looks like it could any minute. :(

This is getting old but the temperature at 6 :54 am is 7 degrees but when you are outside it feels like 8 below. Ken says this cold wave is going to be around for awhile. If you hear sobbing, it is me! At least, now that we are keeping the dogs inside, I only have to go out to feed and water the birds and drive up and get our mail. I feel so sorry for the animals that are not able to get out of this cold. I am setting at the computer right now with a blanket wrapped around me. We have a little heater we use in this room but right now, it is trying to put out as much heat as it can, but I am still not warm.

Ken got to use his shaver for the first time this morning. He is very pleased with it. Of course I had the camera ready. He is thinking of taking the camera away from me! But for now I have a clean shaven man!!!
In the afternoon the oxygen people stopped by and left three more tanks. Ken doesn't use a lot of the portable tanks in the winter because he doesn't go outside that much. In the house, we have a big machine that makes the oxygen for him. I do try to make sure we have enough tanks, just incase we lose our electricity. In an emergency, they are real good about coming out, even though they have to drive from Fayetteville to here.
Ken heard from the doctors. This Thursday he has an appointment with Dr. Chitsey in Harrison. It is just a check-up. We also heard from the Vet's Hospital in Little Rock today. Ken has to go Wednesday, Jan. 20 at 2:00 in the afternoon for an Ultrasound and then back to Little Rock on Wednesday, Jan 27 to the Vascular Clinic at 2:45 in the afternoon. I am going to call a place in Harrison that has a van that will drive the vet's to the hospital and see if we can't have them take us. I sure hope they will, for I have never been to Little Rock and not looking forward to the drive. I am not for sure how long of a drive it is but I know it is quite a bit further than Fayetteville.
Melissa called me this evening and I even got to talk to Luke. He has such a cute voice. I can't wait to see him this summer. It will be fun to show the kids all over this place.

Goodness....It be cold outside and again, it is snowing. As far as I know it snowed all night because I went outside to put water and food out for the birds so when they wake up they can eat breakfast and I had to sweep off all the snow on the front of the entryway, plus the old left over bird seed was covered with new snow. And I won't even discuss their water other than I had to carry the container into the house to unthaw it. It is 6:25 a.m. and the temperature is 15 degrees, but it feels like 5. I am going to head back to bed and pile on the blankets.

Now the sun is shinning and it's beautiful out but the temperature is 14 degrees, and if you are outside, it feels like 1 below zero. Ken is watching news now and apparently not much news on Obama for he is not cussing at the moment!

Last night Ken had a nasty surprise. You know the new razar he got, will last night he had me unplug it so he could get a shave. When he turned it on, nothing happened. He finally had me go check the plug in the bathroom (the bathroom in the computer room) and it is dead. So I plugged it into the hall bathroom and this time you could tell it was plugged in for the shaver has a light. Now Ken won't get a decent shave until this evening. The picture of Ken is before the whiskers were shaved!
I took another picture of our nightly visitor (the opposum). He loves bird seed, plus bread with peanut butter on it, apple pie, and cinnamon rolls. Actually he eats about everything I put out for him. I have no idea if it is a she or he and I am not going to check.
Ken spent several hours on the computer. While he was on the computer I started a pan of homemade cinnamon rolls. I will be baking them in a little while, as soon as they have raised. I sure hope he will eat at least one this evening.

Sunday, 3rd of January 2010

I woke up before light and went outside and put food and water out for the wild birds. Just as soon as it was light, the birds found their breakfast and hopefully are enjoying their food. It's actually quite pretty out, almost like a winter wonder land. We have about 4 inches of fluffy white snow and more is falling. The weather people say we will probably get snow all day. I swept off a little of the entryway to our house and later I am going out and sweep the bridge to the car. Right now (7:35 a.m,) it is 20 degrees out but it feels like 8 degrees. Ken is awake, drinking a fresh cup of coffee, and watching the birds outside as well as watching the morning Arkansas news. Pretty soon I will fix him his breakfast. Probably Cream of Rice which he loves.
It's one in the afternoon and it is still very lightly snowing. Ken is eating and watching football on t.v. Our house feels very comfortable. Both Sam and Wayne Dewhirst called by phone to check on us. I wish Ken could hear people talk on the phone for he would have loved to have talked to them. Once in a while he can hear voices but most of the time I end up talking to who ever called and then tell him what they are saying.

Saturday, 2nd of January 2010

It is Saturday night and colder than heck outside. It is 23 degrees out but it feels like 14 degrees. Radar is showing snow but so far we don't have any. We are suppose to get more snow tomorrow. I am not a happy camper. I take it back. I just let the dogs out so they could go potty and it is snowing. Very light so far but I expect we will wake up to snow on the deck.

I chatted with my daughter-in-law Melissa and she talked me into making a blog. I really don't know how interesting this is for Ken and I don't lead a very exciting life. But at least I can let you all know what is going on with Ken.

Ken has been watching alot of football lately. Mainly because it is too cold for him to go outside and there isn't much else to do around here. Both Ken and I are really looking forward to summer when we can mow grass.

Sam Carpenter, our neighbor, came over and visited Ken early this afternoon. Ken really likes Sam and loves it when he comes to visit him. Sam is the man that comes over and helps Ken by sharpening our mower blades, pulling out the posts of the old fence we had, moving the branches that seem to fall everytime it blows around here, and digging holes so we can plant trees. Actually he does more, but I just named a few of the things he has done to help us.

Ken had me turn off the Christmas lights that are attached to the railing of the deck. I miss them. They are so pretty at night and I really think they would be pretty tonight since it is snowing. I may sneak out and turn them on so we can enjoy the lights at least one more night. I am thinking of leaving the lights connected to the patio all year long. They aren't in the way and actually took me quite awhile to staple them on the railing. I am also going to leave the Christmas tree fastened to the deck. That way I can hang food garland on it for the outside birds all year long, plus it makes a nice shelter for the birds when it is blowing.

I had to drive to Harrison today and buy groceries. Finally remembered to buy ink for the printer so now I can copy pictures, etc. Also bought myself a pair of slippers that won't come off everytime I walk. I am thinking of giving my slip-on-slippers to the ferrets. They will love them and I know they will try to crawl into them.

Ken took a couple of pictures of me holding the ferrets. There is something wrong with our camera for the pictures are all coming out dark. I went and got our other digital camera and hopefully I will get a better pictures with it.

Ken got some of his medicine today. Vet's mail it to us. Plus he got his new shaver but can't use it till tomorrow because it has to be charged for 24 hours. Ken ordered a Remington Titanium MicroScreen 700, which he found on Amazon.com. They sure sent it quickly for we got it in less than a week.

Kenny called Ken today and they got to chat quite awhile. Ken was thrilled to hear Kenny's voice. He really misses him. We are hoping that next summer they can come visit us. He may even get to meet his second grandson for the first time. He can hardly wait.

I guess this is all for now. I will probably think of thousands of things to write about after I post this but it does look like I can add more later.
